'Twilight' soundtrack wins American Music Award

'Twilight' soundtrack wins American Music Award - The Twilight soundtrack has won the 2009 American Music Award for Favorite Movie Soundtrack. The award was not presented during the 3-hour long telecast of the awards, but it was given before the ceremony and listed in the credits with other awards that were not shown during the Sunday night broadcast.

It might seem strange that the weekend the second movie in the Twilight franchise based on the bestselling books by Stephenie Meyer was released that the first film, released a year ago, was still earning awards. The Twilight Saga: New Moon, starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, opened in theaters at midnight November 20 to record-breaking box office sales.

The Twilight Soundtrack has sold millions of copies, not least in part because it contains two songs co-written and performed by one of the movie's stars, Robert Pattinson. Other musical artists on the album include: Muse, Paramore, Linkin Park, Iron & Wine, Collective Soul, Perry Farrell, The Black Ghosts, Mutemath, and Blue Foundation.

'Twilight' soundtrack: How did those vampire tunes get the charts back in their chilly grip?

Entertainment Weekly has a really great article on why the Twilight soundtrack made it to no.3 again after being on the the top 20 for several weeks.


The Twilight soundtrack has been languishing toward the bottom of the Billboard 200's top 20 for some time now -- only to leap back with preternatural speed and agility to No. 3 this week. How'd it swing that? First, a special edition of the soundtrack came out, with bonus goodies including a live clip of that one Iron & Wine song, the music video for Paramore's "Decode," an interview with Paramore singer Hayley Williams, and, er, a "Beyond the Video" clip for Paramore's "Decode." Oh, and Twilight the movie came out on DVD over the weekend. Those two factors combined were enough to persuade 74,000 fans to buy the soundtrack for the first, second, or Nth time, according to Nielsen SoundScan, beating out everyone else last week but Kelly Clarkson (at No. 1 with 90,000) and U2 (at No. 2).
