'New Moon' Star Michael Sheen Talks 'Twilight'-Crazed Daughter And Meeting The Queen On 'Bonnie Hunt'

You'd think with a tween daughter at home, Welsh actor Michael Sheen would have been declared a hero after landing a role in the super- hot "Twilight Saga." But when Michael stopped by "The Bonnie Hunt Show" today to talk about the series, he revealed that his 10-year-old's reaction wasn't quite what he had expected.

"It's a sort of double edged sword though," Michael explained about his role as "New Moon" dastardly vamp Aro. "I remember when I was her age, things I was really into, the last thing I wanted was my dad being into it as well. When I first told her, we were eating some food and I said, 'Look, I'm going to be in the next film. I'm going to play Aro.' And she was lifting the food to her mouth and she froze, and I thought, 'What is she doing?' and a tear started rolling down her cheek. And I thought, 'That's nice. That's exactly the reaction I want.' And then she punched me." Of course his daughter's reaction turned from distraught to elation once she realized she'd be attending the film's big premiere.


When Bonnie asked Michael how many times he's been questioned about Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson making out on set, the actor unsurprisingly played coy, changing the subject. "Everyone worked very hard," he replied. "It was quite weird for me to be on a set where everyone is so young and beautiful. It made me feel every one of my 2,000 years." Read more

Michael Sheen all shaved for New Moon

Michael Sheen was spotted yesterday all cleaned up and ready to film "New Moon." Read LaineyGossip's report below on the filming of "New Moon" yeasterday and today.

As I’ve already reported, yesterday’s scenes involved the Volturi and Carlisle in a flashback explaining what happens to vampires who break the rules. Then they reject Edward’s request.

Today:

Edward is hurled in the air, tossed against a wall when he attempts to protect Bella. Am pretty sure in the book his torture consisted of him writhing on the floor in pain. Obviously, visually, the throwing is much more spectacular, requiring much less emphasis on, um, Robert Pattinson’s facial expressions. Every time he was hurting in the first movie, he looked like he wanted to poo. Oh hush Twi-hards. It was the direction!

Also on sched: Aro is convinced to release Bella, Edward, and Alice because he sees the vision.

Michael Sheen and Jamie Campbell Bower was spotted arriving in Vancouver to shoot their scenes for New Moon while Dakota Fanning was spotted at LAX heading for Vancouver as well.

Here are Michael Sheen and Jamie Campbell Bower arriving yesterday for New Moon. For those of you who are not familiar, Michael Sheen is the father of Kate Beckinsale’s daughter. It’s widely believed she left him for Len Wiseman during the filming of Underworld. Michael received critical acclaim in both The Queen and most recently in Frost/Nixon.

Meanwhile, Kate’s only contribution these days has been overdressing.

Does the Michael Sheen 'New Moon' casting win you over (or back)?

EW has an article about Michael Sheen being casted as Aro in New Moon. They are wondering if Michael joining the cast would convert the twilight non-believers.


New Moon director Chris Weitz's "aggressive" pursuit of actor Michael Sheen -- best known for playing Tony Blair and David Frost in the Oscar-nominated films The Queen and Frost/Nixon, and the Lycan (or werewolf) Lucian in the Underword films -- is a serious hit with fans. Casting him as Aro, leader of the Volturi, a coven of ancient vampires who police (and kill) those who threaten to reveal the secret of the immortals' existence, shows that Weitz knows what interesting characters he's got to work with. And also, of course, that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke got seriously screwed on her budget.

But you've also got to wonder if Weitz sought Sheen out because he'd lend the production a credibility that even the casting of Dakota Fanning as Volturi member Jane hadn't managed. Comments on our weekend news brief about Sheen's casting make you think he might've succeeded:

Sara: Holy crap! Now I will definitely go see this movie! I love Michael Sheen!

beelkay: Fantastic! Now that I can get behind. I just hope all these good actors they're getting lift the original cast's game rather than overshadow them.

Jessi: I wasn't sure if I'd bother to see New Moon in theatres, but I definitely will now! Michael Sheen is exactly the kind of actor Summit needs to cast to atone for the mediocrity of the first film.

Michael Sheen to play Aro in New Moon

According to the DailyMail, british actor Michael Sheen (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Frost/Nixon) will be playing the Volturi vampire leader Aro in New Moon.


He has immortalised Tony Blair, David Frost and, most recently, legendary football manager Brian Clough on the big screen.

Now actor Michael Sheen is set to return to the realm of the firmly fictional after agreeing to play a vampire in the sequel to the blockbuster film Twilight.

Sheen, 40, who made his name with uncannily realistic portrayals of well-known figures in Oscar-winning films The Queen, Frost/Nixon and The Damned United, will get his biggest pay cheque yet, a reported £5million, to star in New Moon.

But he will be hoping the movie brings him better luck than his first foray into the vampire genre, the 2003 movie Underworld, starring Kate Beckinsale, with whom he has a daughter.

They split up during the making of the movie and the actress began a relationship with its director, Len Wiseman.

In New Moon, Sheen will play Aro, the leader of an Italian vampire clan called the Volturi.
Director Chris Weitz confirmed Sheen’s casting to The Mail on Sunday and said he had ‘aggressively’ pursued the actor.

‘Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires,’ he said. ‘Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.’ Click here to read more.
