DEA Special Agent Erin McKenzie-Mulvey tells us the heroin baggies with "Twilight" characters were seized recently in West Hempstead, Long Island. The "Twilight"-themed baggies have been gaining popularity over the last couple of months.
New York Special Agent in Charge John Gilbride tells TMZ a dime bag of heroin in New York is cheaper than a six pack of beer.

According to New York Magazine Twilight has saved Hot Topic from retail death. Thanks to the Twilight merchandise they've been selling, Hot Topic's sales keep incresing every month since the movies release in November. 
This welcome break from never-ending economic doom and gloom is brought to you by Twilight, the movie responsible for boosting Hot Topic's sales 11.4 percent in the third quarter. What? Yes. Twilight merchandise has saved Hot Topic from bloody retail death in the economic downturn. Just look at the numbers:
The mall-based retailer’s comparable-store sales were negative from the second quarter of 2005 until October 2008. They have risen each month since then, increasing 6.5 percent in November, 4.3 percent in December, 6 percent in January and 10.8 percent last month.

Anything connected to Twilight is a sure winner. Hot Topic, Borders and Amazon have been selling any product that can be related to Twilight. From Twilight posters to the Cullen crest, and even Edward Cullen pajamas, everything has been selling like hot cakes. Now that the Twilight DVD is set to be released on March 21st, all these retailers are battling for the best exclusive Twilight DVD package they could think of. Hot Topic has their own special edition DVD, Borders and Amazon have their own collector's edition DVD as well.
Now, another U.S. retailer wants to join the club. Walmart, the biggest discount store in America announced that they will be opening "Twilight Shops" within each of its 3,500 U.S. discount stores starting in mid-March.
Wal-Mart said it will sell the DVD movie and CD soundtrack along with Twilight clothes, posters, jewelry and key chains. Fans can also place early "pre-orders" on Wal-Mart's website for the Twilight DVD ahead of its nationwide release, and Walmart.com will post news about upcoming fan events and activities.
It will be a gruesome battle on who will take home the most cash from the Twilight DVD. It's just a matter of who offers the best package with a cheaper price.

As the nation’s retailing landscape has deteriorated, Hot Topic is one of a handful of chains that seem to be coming out ahead. The most obvious winners are discounters like Wal-Mart Stores and BJ’s Wholesale Club, which are helping American families trade down to cheaper merchandise. But another, more surprising group of beneficiaries has emerged: niche chains that cater to teenagers and young adults.

That's the longest run in the top 10 for a theatrical movie soundtrack since 8 Mile had 14 weeks in the top 10 in 2002.
