ABS-CBN Television Network announced today that they bagged the exclusive rights to make a television series based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel "Twilight" for $1 million with co-producer Ignite Media.
The new series is tentatively title "Takipsilim" (tagalog word for Twilight) which will star Rayver Cruz as Edward Cullen and Shaina Magdayao as Bella Swan.
The series will start filming February of next year and will be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
The twilight fandom has exploded today with hate comments regarding the said adaptation. The fans are even signing petitions ( Note: Petitions don't work) to stop the filipino remake of the book they all fell in love with. Even the Twilight Philippines website has a poll going on and 80% responded that they hate this idea.
As for me, I thought I was Team Switzerland. But now that its been confirmed, I think I would go with "Team No Filipino Remake". This would totally ruin Twilight for us. When you love something so much, I think it sucks to watch it be abused merely as a cash cow. Why don't they just put subtitles. That way, you still get to keep the original characters. And can you imagine someone speaking in Tagalog and his last name is Cullen? Can you imagine Edward, instead of looking pale, he looks like he just went to Hawaii? Go figure right?!
But its not the end for us though. If you're Filipino, please BAN this TV show. Don't even watch it out of curiousity. Let them feel the wrath of the Twilighters.
